Release of P4R booklet

New P4R Booklet by Rosemary Morrow with Ruth Harvey

Teaching Permaculture to Refugees in Camps

It is with pleasure that we, Permaculture For Refugees (P4R), bring you the latest booklet in our series on teaching permaculture in refugee situations. It is based on our first-hand experience of trialing permaculture courses in camps and settlements in 2019/20.

We hope that Teaching Permaculture to Refugees in Camps provides a comprehensive guide for teachers and NGOs planning, or already running, PDCs in refugee camps or settlements. These situations are vastly different from teaching ‘at home’ in one language and one culture to participants with relatively secure futures.

This booklet outlines the steps involved in preparing for such a teaching project:

  • it gives guidance on what to anticipate and what to do at different stages
  • It notes the specific skills, awareness and adaptability required.
  • It provides tools for engaging people from diverse backgrounds for reflection, evaluation and reporting.

Please share widely to everyone who might benefit from it.

This booklet is equally valuable for anyone teaching in development situations.  We also think that teachers who love teaching will find it engaging.

We hope to have the final booklet, Outcomes from Teaching Permaculture in Refugee Settlements out early next year.

Thank you so much for your interest, support and on-going care for refugees and asylum seekers everywhere.
